Food glorious food!

Another busy weekend recruiting more advertisers, but fun as well.  We got off to an early start with a visit to Fields butchers in Anlaby.  Wow!! A fantastic display of meat products, perfect for the BBQ.  The proprietor Brian, took a little time to talk with us but couldn't stop long as there was a steady stream of customers coming in to shop.  It just proves what can be achieved with a healthy dose of passion and determination!  If you are thinking of having a BBQ over the summer look no further - Tescos eat your heart out! www.fieldsofanlaby.co.uk

Next stop Beverley - again! This time we headed away from the market and went as far as White's and Rolandos close to the bar.  We had a quick chat with John Robinson of Whites who was in the midst of his busy Saturday lunch service.  The menu had our mouths watering visit www.whitesrestaurant.co.ukA quick pit stop for lunch at Rolandos as the heat was starting to make us wilt, the Mediterranean Salad was a delicious combination of good quality feta, sun dried tomatoes, pickled vegetables and salad leaves very refreshing but at the same time light on the stomach.  The carrot and sweet potato soup of the day served with homemade garlic bread was also worth a mention!

It's a tough job but someone has to taste their way around East Yorkshire - we are giving it our best shot and are totally committed to the cause!

What happened to the week?!

We can't believe another week has passed already, bringing us closer to the all important first publishing deadline.  Our concept continues to be well received by the foodie fraternity in the East Riding and beyond.  We are proud to report that we have increased our Twitter following significantly and we even have some followers from the US.  If you don't believe us go and check it out at http://twitter.com/foodiefinders

Our advertising space is fast running out in our first magazine.  This weekend we will have a final drive to make sure we get as many top notch food businesses on board.  No doubt we will have to try some examples of the products on offer - it's a tough job but someone has to do it! We will report back in due course, don't stray too far...!

Sampling our way around Holderness and Beverley

A very productive day spent touring the Holderness area.  Our day started with a quick visit to Mr Moos www.mrmoos.co.uk where we quickly popped in to leave our details.  The staff were welcoming and the food in the counters looked appetising.  Outside there is a lovely seating area which would have been perfect for enjoying a coffee on a slightly warmer and drier day!
William's Farm Kitchen www.williamsfarmkitchen.co.uk at Hornsea Freeport was a real find.  Chock full of Yorkshire produce, much of it from the East Riding and a very warm welcome from Mark who happily chatted to us about all the suppliers whose produce he stocks.
It seems Brandesburton is a bit of a foodie's paradise with The Black Swan recently voted one of the top pubs in Yorkshire and just over the road Harper's Fish and Chips.  As we came out of the pub we saw people enjoying the sunshine eating perfectly cooked fish and chips - very tempting.  The great thing is wherever you are in the East Riding you are never far away from a Harpers www.harpersfishandchips.co.uk as they have a number of branches - Wetwang, York, and coming soon - Market Weighton.  Round the corner is Charters the butcher established for over a century!
Back in the car to Beverley and our first call was to speak to Sean at Perk-u-later where we enjoyed a well earned cup of tea (no cake this time!).  Being Saturday it was market day and as usual, the centre of Beverley was buzzing.  Another pit stop was required, this time at the Indulgent Tarte for some more substantial sustenance - Mexican Bean Soup and a piece of honey and almond flapjack - delicious!!  James from The Blending Room was very positive and asked us some great questions www.theblendingroom.co.uk. We took a brief detour into Amanti to buy Father's Day presents, they have beautiful ceramics and well designed kitchen equipment www.amantidirect.co.uk.  It hasn't been possible to mention all the people we saw today, there were so many, thank you to everyone we spoke to for taking time out of their busy days to listen to us and special thanks to Steve at The Black Swan for his words of praise and encouragement.  Look out for our next update coming soon!!

Recruiting advertisers

Every day generates more interest from local food businesses.  Today we will be out and about in the Holderness area explaining what we are about and recruiting advertisers to our new food directory.  We are looking for businesses in the following food related categories...
  • Food producers - cake makers, micro brewers, chutney makers, ice-cream manufacturers...
  • Food retailers
  • Kitchen equipment
  • Service businesses - oven cleaning, marquee hire,

All systems go!!

Well, we have researched, planned, and analysed with the best of them but at the end of the day, there is no substitute for getting out there and doing it!  Our mission was launched on Saturday as we approached our first potential customers.  It would be wrong to name names here as we wouldn't want to jinx what has been a very positive start to our advertiser recruitment campaign.  All I will say is that no-one looked at us as though we had been beamed up from another planet, so we seem to be on the right track!

The challenge for us right now is to do all the things we need to in a very short time scale. I have every confidence in our ability and I am sure if we fortify ourselves with some of the excellent produce and wares we have seen on our rounds of the food shops in Hessle, Skidby and Beverley we will be fine.  Thanks everyone for the warm welcome we received and for the time you gave to allow us to explain our plans - you know who you are!
